Moving & Emotions

Moving is the worst.

I’m going to to honest, this whole process of moving has been nothing short of an emotional roller coaster. I am excited to be moving, stressed that we are moving, sad to be leaving our first home, excited to plant roots in our new home, and did I mention stressed?

We are moving about a week prior to when were supposed to which is great, but also… hello time crunch! You never realize how much crap you have until you move. It does help you purge and get rid of items you know you do not need anymore though! Regardless of that, packing up the tubs and boxes, moving your furniture, going through old memories, it’s a daunting and exhausting task.

Everyone handles stress different, and I am one of those that eats too much vegan ice cream, drinks too much wine, and does not practice any self care…not a great idea. Maybe I should go back to Emily’s post about 50 Self-Care acts!? I’m finding it really important to take care of myself, especially when I know I need it most! Here are a few things I have found I do to help myself during this big move:

1.) OILS! I have been diffusing, wearing, and

even more diffusing of my essential oils so religiously lately, it’s like I cannot and do not want to be without them. One of my favorite diffuser blends lately has been: Frankincense, Lavender, Basil, and Peppermint! It has been helping to calm my nerves which in turns helps my headaches and stress!

2.) Playing outside with Charger! I have found that I am consciously taking the pup outside more and not only enjoying the weather, but playing together, running around, and enjoying the moment. I am also trying to make this move and easy as possible on him! People may laugh, but dogs are creatures of habit–changes bother Charger. He has noticed the moving and we can feel him getting anxious about it. Getting outside and burning off some energy is good for both of us!

3.) Podcasts & Music! Lately my favorite Podcast is Dax Shepherd’s “Armchair Expert!” So real, raw, and hilarious! I also love to jump onto Spotify and listen to the station “Beach Music” It just relaxes me and puts me in a better state of mind.

4.) Breathe. Sometimes it can be so hard to just stop and breathe. Whether it’s yoga, meditation, or just taking a moment throughout my days, remembering the bigger picture and taking a nice breath of fresh air is so important.

Those are just a few ways I’ve been trying to relax and handle my emotions during this moving process. I hope if you are going through a move now or soon, you find ways to relax and enjoy the process!

Don’t worry, I will have more about our moving process, our new home, and more on the blog later!
